Experience working with students with developmental disabilities in education treatment programs or related field preferred.

Must become certified in Professional Assault Crisis Training (Pro-Act) and successfully complete.

All candidates will be subject to a criminal background check through the California Department of Justice and the FBI as well as submit a current TB test.

Job Description Summary:

WORK HOURS: Part time; split shift. Hours may vary based on routes and school instructional hours. Specific hours to be determined by site, based on travel/route demands.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Ride a school bus with students in transport to school or home. Provide instruction and behavior management to an individual student or group of students on the bus. Ensure proper implementation of behavioral management practices to provide a safe and orderly environment on the school bus.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Essential duties include, but are not limited to, the following items:

  • Maintain proper behavior management of passengers; resolve disputes; document and report severe disciplinary cases.
  • Oversee and assist with the loading and unloading of students, releasing students only to authorized individuals; assure that safety belts are fastened.
  • If assigned to a wheelchair bus, load and unload students on and off bus; inspect wheelchair for operational safety, only allowing properly functioning wheelchairs to load; operate ramp, assure seatbelts are fastened; position and secure wheelchairs in bus.
  • Monitor students with special health problems while on bus; follow written or oral instructions and alert to any signs of difficulty following prescribed instructions and procedures; administer first aid and call for emergency assistance if needed.
  • Transport and deliver medication, personal belongings, messages and memos between parents and school staff; collect and return students' personal property when entering and disembarking the school bus.
  • Properly complete and turn in Aide Logs and other reports as required. Attends meetings, programs and in-service training as assigned.
  • Work in conjunction with the vehicle operator at all times.
  • Maintain current required licenses and certificates
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
