Intensive Instructional Support Program (IISP)

This program was implemented to assist our students who have traditionally been labeled as "conduct disordered". These students qualify for special educational services and generally present as being extremely defiant, verbally abusive, and physically aggressive. This population is absent from school regularly, frequently runs away from campus, and does not routinely comply with academic instruction. The idea of the program was to create an enriched environment with enhanced resources so problem behaviors could be addressed immediately. This day-school program actively engages students in a rigorous academic curriculum and uses a strength-based approach centering on a social skills curriculum and empowerment for one’s own behavior. This is called the "Boys Town" Education Model which focuses on reducing discipline problems, by increasing student on-task time, and building/maintaining healthy relationships. It also provides structured ways for staff to interact with students. The model provides consistency across all staff and focuses on both proactive as well as reactive strategies.

The Intensive Instructional Support Program includes one of the most important and innovative community policing programs. Operation Clean SWEEP. (Success With Enforcement/Education Partnership) is a coalition of law enforcement, educators, and the courts whose main focus is to promote a safe learning environment in our schools.

The enriched staffing ratio for this program consists of a Program Director, a credentialed special education teacher, a teaching assistant, a counselor (LMFT) who meets with students individually as well as in a group setting, a School Resource Officer, and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who is responsible for conducting functional assessments and writing and monitoring positive behavior intervention plans.

These staff members work collaboratively with school personnel, parents, care providers, probation/police officers, mental health professionals, and other professionals as needed.
